Things that inspire me to write #2: This Quote by Randy Pausch

Randy Pausch

“The brick walls are there for a reason. .. [they] are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture.

Rejection, never ending edits, and oh yeah, the fact that there are so many people out there that are clearly better at this than me. There are a lot of brick walls when it comes to the business of writing a manuscript and getting it published. However, whenever I am feeling particularly disheartened by the seemingly impossibility of this dream, I remember Randy’s quote and am reminded that there is one thing I do have that just may be more important than talent or skill or a super awesome BFF that just happens to work for Penguin (and buys me lattes every morning just cuz): determination.

So thank you Randy, you inspire me…and of course so many millions of others.

  1. This was perfect for me to read today. I just finished a working draft of a short story (I hope will also become a screenplay and stage script) and now I am faced with the mountainous task of getting it “out there”.

    Thanks for the encouraging words.

    1. Congrats! Have you watched the whole Ted Talk by Pausch? Some great stuff in there, though this bit stuck out for me. Glad to be of help and good luck on stage two!
